Motorist goes to police after crashing into two cyclists

At the beginning of November, two cyclists were hit by a car in the city center of (Deux-Sèvres). Despite the police investigation, the person responsible for the accident, who had fled, remained untraceable. However, the latter ended up presenting himself at the police station last Thursday, report our colleagues from Actu.fr.

The facts date back to November 7. In his SUV, the driver hit two young people riding a bike. Aged 17 and 18, they were taken to hospital in serious condition. If one of them has since been released, the injuries of the second still require daily medical monitoring. The motorist, for his part, had chosen to evade his responsibilities.

Released under judicial supervision

The latter finally changed his mind by turning himself in to the police at the end of last week. He was immediately taken into custody. It would be a young man living in Niort. Law enforcement has not released any further information about him.

His explanations on the circumstances of the accident, in particular the reasons for his flight, also remain unknown. The Niortais was presented to a judge of freedoms and detention immediately after his custody. He was finally released under judicial supervision while awaiting his trial scheduled for next January.
