Nature Manifesto: an immersive sound experience by Björk & Aleph at the Center Pompidou

On the occasion of the Forum “Biodiversity: which culture for which future?” », which is to be held at the Center Pompidou this fall, the Parisian museum is hosting an immersive sound installation imagined and designed by the Icelandic singer Björk and the artist Aleph. This unique experience can be discovered free of charge from Wednesday November 20 to Monday December 9, 2024.

Committed for many years, Björk continues its fight for the environment and the protection of biodiversity. This fall, the Pompidou Center announces a installation sonore immersive co-created by the Nordic artist, and to discover for free in “ The Caterpillar », the escalators of the Parisian museum.

Entitled “ Nature Manifesto », this sound work was therefore designed by the world-famous Icelandic singer and the publisher, artistic director and photographer Aleph. Together, they imagined a sound piece lasting 3 minutes 40, thought of as a “post-optimistic manifesto on nature“.

Created in 2024 as part of the Forum “ Biodiversity: which culture for which future? » planned at the Center Pompidou, this installation merges Björk's voice, reading her manifesto, with cries of extinct and endangered animals, as well as natural soundscapes.

Through this immersive hearing experience and committed, the two artists evoke the disappearance of biodiversity as well as the collapse of ecosystems. Together they give voice to silent nature. “ The sounds were edited and produced by Björk in collaboration with Robin Meier Wiratunga, using Ircam software and artificial intelligence models », specifies the IRCAM website.

« We want to share our 'Nature Manifesto', a sound installation at the Center Pompidou ” explain Björk et Aleph in a press release published on social networks. “ Produced in collaboration with IRCAM using AI software, this immersive sound piece gives voice to threatened or extinct animals by merging their sounds with our words. We wanted to share their presence in an architecture representative of the industrial era, far from nature. In the veins of the museum's escalator, known as the “caterpillar”, we wanted to remind citizens of the raw vitality of endangered creatures » specify the two artists, before adding: “ But we didn't just want to talk, but also act, which is why we launched a campaign with young environmentalists from and Iceland. It will be launched later ».

If you want to discover this sound experience by Björk and Aleph, then head to “ The Caterpillar » from the Center Pompidou from Wednesday November 20 to Monday December 9, 2024. Note that this free sound creation is broadcast continuously.
