Air quality is deteriorating in Brittany, especially in Morbihan

The air quality will deteriorate a little more than today, in Brittany this Wednesday June 26, 2024, according to forecasts from the Air Breizh observatory. Morbihan will be particularly concerned with “poor” indicators.

The air quality was already degraded this Tuesday, June 25, 2024 throughout Brittany, due in particular to a higher concentration of ozone (O3).

And the situation will further deteriorate this Wednesday, June 26. The entire region will remain under the same alert level. And in Morbihan, it will be worse. Air quality indices will be “poor” according to forecasts from the Air Breizh observatory which analyzes the concentrations of five air pollutants: PM10, PM2.5, O3, NO2 and SO2.

The Lorient and Vannes sectors are similarly affected by this deterioration in air quality, caused by too high a concentration of ozone (O3). Resulting from chemical reactions under the effect of high heat, this pollutant becomes toxic when present in too high quantities.

The return of the sun at the start of the week, after several days of torrential rain, is not unrelated to this phenomenon.

To limit the health risk, it is advisable to reduce or postpone intense physical and sporting activities. Prolonged exposure to the sun, during periods of extreme heat, should also be avoided.

In the event of respiratory or cardiac discomfort, it is best to contact a healthcare professional.
