The Foulées roses de Chartres, organized this Saturday June 29, have supported the action of the Peps association for ten editions

The 10th edition of the Foulées roses de Chartres, co-organized by Republican Echo, the ASPTT Chartres and the Peps association, marks nearly ten years of partnership for the benefit of the fight against cancer. Indispensable support for the Peps association, which finances the support of around a hundred people.

The Foulées roses de Chartres are co-organized by Republican Echo, the ASPTT Chartres and the Peps association (Prevention education for health). The latter “takes care of people with cancer, but also people with chronic illnesses,” explains Sylvie Pelletier, founder and secretary of the association. The Foulées roses are celebrating their tenth edition this Saturday, June 29. Launched in 2015, the event is dedicated to financing the fight against cancer.

“Our main funding for the year”

“The evolution of the Foulées Roses is a rise in the organization’s power,” declares Sylvie Pelletier. She adds: “The event has become an unmissable event for many families, directly or indirectly affected by cancer, but also for colleagues who meet for the business challenge, for friends, etc. It is also a meeting place for young people. Last year, we opened a challenge for schools, open this year to middle and high schools. It is important to raise awareness among young people, who are closely affected by the human papilloma virus, the cause of cervical cancer. »

Last year, in 2023, the Foulées roses brought together 4,023 people, which allowed Peps to receive the sum of €25,410.

Strides of the cathedral: reinforced health system for the 29th edition, in Chartres

“This is our main funding for the year,” says Sylvie Pelletier. We have reduced operating costs as much as possible so that all donations go directly to actions done for patients.”

Apart from the Foulées roses, “the rest of the year, associations and companies make donations to us or organize events,” explains the founder of the association. “Patients have a €5 membership fee to the association and we take care of the rest,” explains Sylvie Pelletier.

Consultations, workshops…

She explains: “We finance six sophrology consultations. In cancerology, this will act on pain and sleep disorders, anxiety, etc. We are also financing six consultations with the podiatrist, who will treat the side effects on the feet and nails, linked to chemotherapy treatment. There is also a support group, led by a psychotherapist, open to cancer and other chronic illnesses. Then, we finance a socio-aesthetic workshop, a well-being workshop with foot reflexology and massage, and two nutrition workshops with dietitians, for therapeutic education. »

The Strides of the Cathedral, a race that gains height

In 2021, 44 people benefited from this support. In 2023, there were around a hundred. “It’s thanks to the Foulées roses. Last year, we had twelve articles in Republican Echo », recalls Sylvie Pelletier.
Every year, since the first edition of the Foulées roses, “we try to renew ourselves, to have new contacts, to highlight other associations. This time, the favorite trophy will be given to the Famille Rural association, with whom we have been working for ten years.”

Concerning the race this Saturday, June 29, “we will have two joëlettes” announces the president. These chairs, which allow anyone with a disability to walk or hike, will be used in the afternoon “by a young child being treated for cancer”, and in the evening, “by a young adult”. , specifies Sylvie Pelletier.

Looking for new funds

Sylvie Pelletier, Noéline Leroy and Ellen Valy (from left to right) hope to see more than 4,000 runners on Saturday.

During the 9th edition of the Foulées roses de Chartres, in 2023, the Peps association (prevention education for health) collected €25,410, thanks to the participation of 4,023 runners. Today “in deficit”, Peps is looking for new funds.

“As the association gains visibility, the Foulées roses, which represent essential support, will not be enough to cover all of the services,” confides Sylvie Pelletier, founder and secretary of Peps.

In 2023, around a hundred people will have benefited from support offered by the association, “which represents €30,000. This includes the remuneration of health professionals, who lead the groups or carry out consultations, and the rental of rooms,” explains Sylvie Pelletier.

More and more members

Sophrology and podiatry consultations, discussion groups, socio-aesthetic, well-being and nutrition workshops… The support offered by Peps is varied.

Over the years, the number of patients asking to join the association increases, “which causes a deficit”. In 2021, there were forty-four. In 2023, around a hundred. For the year 2024, Peps estimates that the number of members will be one hundred to one hundred and fifty people. “We do not see ourselves refusing people to join the association. This is why we are looking for grants, patrons, companies or new partners,” explains Sylvie Pelletier.

For the 10th edition of the Foulées roses, the founder of Peps hopes for a good participation: “We hope to pass 4,000 like last year, if not more”.
