Aged 52, a man was tried on October 8 by the court for theft committed a year earlier, according to information fromActu.fr. In fact, the latter was accused of having broken and stolen food from Red Cross premises.

The events took place during the night of Christmas Eve 2023, in the premises of the charity located in Saint-Pierre-en-Auge, in the department.

Man sentenced to two months in prison for theft

It was around 9 p.m. when the fifty-year-old entered the Red Cross premises. In two minutes, the latter had filled a bag with food before leaving the scene. Thanks to video surveillance cameras, the defendant was able to be arrested, since he constantly wore a scarf. A clothing detail which allowed investigators to identify the suspect in this theft.

The man denied breaking into the premises, explaining that he found the door open. According to the magistrates, it was “plausible” that in just two minutes, the suspect could not have forced the front door. Thus, the court sentenced the fifty-year-old to a prison term of two months for simple theft. The magistrates therefore ruled out break-in.
