Despite her firm opposition to the budget cuts decided by the government for the departmental councils, the socialist president of the Department of Aude, Hélène Sandragné, confirms that it is out of the question for her to no longer pay the allowances as a sign of protest against the finance law unlike what other presidents could do.
“It was the meeting of all hopes, it was on the contrary a great disappointment”. Present in Angers during the meetings of the Departments of France which were held from November 13 to 15, the socialist president of the Aude departmental council, Hélène Sandragné, returned disappointed to say the least following discussions with the Prime Minister, Michel Barnier. The latter in fact intervened concerning the highly contested 2025 finance bill which provides for savings requested from local authorities of around 5 billion, including 2.4 billion for the departments alone.

But he didn't convince Hélène Sandragné, to say the least. “Already the State was not there, but here, in 2025, it will be even less so. We are being asked to pay for this national effort in its place. It is asking for something disproportionate. There was Moreover, the Department presidents unanimously told him that this is unacceptable. He gave up 300 million for all the Departments but he takes 2.4 billion from them for our 2025 budget, that will be 20 million less for our operations. To show their unity and display their anger, the presidents of the Departments should organize a week of action around December 14. Some would even consider, to demonstrate their disapproval of the budget cuts planned for 2025, suspending the payment of social minimums such as the RSA for which the departmental councils have the competence. A standoff that Hélène Sandragné will not engage in. “We will be in action but there will be no suspension of RSA payments. It is out of the question, for the woman of the left that I am, to penalize users”.
In the meantime, the elected official is launching discussions with her services this week in order to make various arbitrations in the extremely likely event that the 2025 budget is cut by nearly 20 million.
