Marsa Maroc and the company Nador West Med have signed a concession agreement for the Nador West Med East Container Terminal, planned to manage up to 3.4 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEU).

The Supervisory Board of Marsa Maroc, during its meeting on June 25, 2024, approved the signing of the documents relating to the concession of the Eastern Container Terminal of the port of Nador West Med (NWM) for a period of 25 years, according to a official press release.

The terminal, which will be equipped with 1,520 meters of linear quay, with a depth of 18 meters and 70 hectares of land, will be able to handle up to 3.4 million TEUs at full capacity.

Ultimately, it will be equipped with 15 quay gantry cranes (STS) and 45 latest generation park gantry cranes (RTG).

For the first phase of the East Container Terminal, which is scheduled to open in 2027, Marsa Maroc plans an investment of 200 million euros. The company will leverage its expertise and global business relationships to ensure the success of this terminal.

Since January 2021, Marsa Maroc has established itself in the container transshipment market thanks to its operation of Container Terminal 3 (TC3) in the Tanger Med port complex, in partnership with Hapag Lloyd, Eurogate International GmbH and Contship Italia SpA In just three years, the TC3 reached its maximum capacity of 1.5 million TEUs.

By becoming the first operator of the NWM port complex, Marsa Maroc consolidates its national leadership and strengthens its position in the transshipment segment in the Mediterranean, increasing its total container processing capacity to 6.5 million TEUs, of which nearly 5 millions dedicated to transshipment.
