THE BEAUTIFUL OF GAZA
by Yolande Zauberman. Fri/2024/1h16.
They were a fleeting vision in the night. I was told that one of them came on foot from Gaza to Tel Aviv. In my head I called her The Beauty of Gaza.
A film as beautiful formally as it is politically powerful, which attempts to illuminate the darkness in order to move towards the light…

Turkey, 1996. Ahmet, 14, is devastated when his family sends him to a religious boarding school (Yurt). For his recently converted father, it is a path to redemption and purity. For him, it’s a nightmare. By day, he attended a secular and nationalist private school; in the evening, he finds his overcrowded dormitory, long hours of Koranic studies and bullying. But thanks to his friendship with another resident, Ahmet defies the strict rules of this system, which only aims to recruit young people.
A beautiful learning story and an acidic picture of Turkey.

Two little girls, Mei and Satsuki, come to live with their father in a large house in the countryside in order to be closer to the hospital where their mother is staying. They will discover the existence of their new neighbors, invisible to the eyes of other humans, wonderful but very discreet creatures: Big Totoro, Medium Totoro (Chū-Totoro) and Little Totoro (Chibi-Totoro). With his plump belly, Totoro is a rare and fascinating being, a spirit of the forest… He feeds on acorns and nuts. He can fly, travel in a “Cat-Bus”. He sleeps during the day, but on full moon nights, he likes to play with magic ocarinas…
