“It’s a pretty exceptional moment.” This is how Christophe Thiry, the director of cultural affairs at Val Briardsummarizes what awaits the public this Wednesday November 20, 2024. Throughout the day, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., you will be able to discover and admire a painting belonging to the Center Pompidou. “It will be exhibited in one of the rooms adjoining the Envolée stage, at the Chapelles-Bourbon community farm (Seine-et-Marne)”, indicates Christophe Thiry, before saying more about the origin of this loan. “I met the teams from the Beaubourg Center a few years ago, when Val Briard was applying to become French capital of culture. They immediately proposed an exhibition aimed at young audiences. We organized it in Rozay-en-Brie over a period of three weeks.”
A painting by Nicolas de Staël
With the flow visibly going well between the two teams, the Beaubourg Center made a new proposal to the community of communes of Val Briard: participate in the system “1 day, 1 work”. An invitation approved by Christophe Thiry. “This is a system supported by the Beaubourg center for around ten years. The objective is to present a major work from their collections as close as possible to the public.”
And for this premiere, the man of theater and entertainment therefore selected a painting by Nicolas de Staël, called The musicians, memory of Sidney Bechet. A choice which proves to be a perfect link between painting and the shows performed on the Envolée stage. “When you look at it, you imagine it’s a jazz group. With its bright colors and dimensions (she is almost two meters high, editor’s note)it should not leave the public indifferent, he confides. It fits fully into this place dedicated to the living arts.”
A speaker from the Center Pompidou will be there for the day, to present the details of the work to the most curious, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Workshops with theartist musician Élodie Pasquier will also be organized at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. You will be invited to draw and paint to the sound of music and will make the link between visual arts and music.
Using a variety of graphics tools, you will experiment with composition by creating a visual and colorful score.
Other projects with Beaubourg?
Finally, this day will conclude with a conference given by Christian Briendchief curator of the Center Pompidou, at around 5 p.m.
Once the conference is over, the work will return to the capital. But this should not mark the end of the partnership with Beaubourg. “I'm already thinking about what we could do with them next year. We will see what they offer us,” promises Christophe Thiry.
