The 106th congress of mayors opens this Monday in Paris, the question of delinquency is notably on the menu of discussions. The gendarmerie intends to advocate for improved collaboration with municipal police. In this area, Mayotte is seen as a model of success.
Mayors and presidents of intermunicipalities are meeting this week in Paris. The 106th congress of mayors is being held from this Monday, November 18 until Thursday. On the agenda: the fight against delinquency, with, among others, speakers from the national gendarmerie. The police intend in particular to emphasize the importance of collaboration with municipal and intercommunal police.
On this subject, Mayotte is often taken as a model of success, particularly in Petite-Terre. If these cooperation agreements are almost obligatory between the municipal police and the gendarmerie, their effectiveness depends on the will of each party. In Petite-Terre, the ingredients are brought together according to the gendarmerie: the municipal and intercommunal police work with them on a daily basis, through weekly meetings and joint operations. Since this year, Pamandzi agents have even been authorized to go on patrol with the gendarmes. They can ask them to consult, if necessary, the file of wanted people.
Faced with the turnover of law enforcement in Mayotte, municipal police officers provide more detailed knowledge of the field. In return, only the police can arrest the perpetrators of crimes and misdemeanors. While these cooperation agreements are renewed every three years, the gendarmerie would like to see more municipalities take advantage of this system.
Before these debates, the first day of the congress is dedicated to the question of Overseas Territories. “Overcoming water crises” will be the theme of the first round table which includes MP Estelle Youssouffa and Ibrahim Aboubacar, the general director of services of the Les Eaux de Mayotte union. This Monday afternoon, Madi Madi Souf, the president of the association of mayors of Mayotte, will participate in debates on the question of the cost of living in the Overseas Territories.
The mayor of Pamandzi will speak again this Wednesday on the question of coastal preservation. The mayor of Sada and president of Sidevam, Houssamoudine Abdallah, will participate in a debate on the “variable geometry waste management.“
