Responding to a written question from MP Mustapha Dahmani, coordinator of the Social Justice parliamentary group in the House of Advisors, on “the adoption of ecological cars in the taxi fleet”, Abdelouafi Laftit explained that “the renewal support program of the taxi fleet, in its two categories, small and large, has the objectives, in addition to modernizing the fleet of vehicles used as taxis and improving the quality of services offered to users of this type of transport, to contribute to the reduction of polluting gas emissions generated by the mobility of the taxi fleet. » Around 60,000 vehicles used as taxis were renewed, or more than 77% of the taxi fleet nationally, with the replacement of old vehicles with vehicles equipped with modern engines consuming around 40% less fuel as part of this program, said the minister. This measure “contributed significantly to reducing the negative environmental impacts resulting from the use of old taxis and to creating the necessary conditions for their conservation by reducing the emissions of polluting gases generated by the activity of these cars and by contributing to improving road safety indicators,” he assured.

According to Laftit, the preference of professionals for the use of vehicles with thermal engines as taxis “is due to the high cost of ecological cars, the lack of sufficient incentives on the part of companies marketing this type of vehicles for their use for this purpose , as well as the constraints linked to the availability of the infrastructures necessary for the use of electric cars, and to the limited autonomy of electric motors compared to thermal engines. » He welcomed the positive commitment of his department in initiatives aimed at encouraging the adoption of ecological vehicles in the transport sector in general and in the taxi fleet in particular, and specified that this subject remains linked to public orientations and policies and the programs adopted in this regard, as well as the commitment of professionals and other stakeholders concerned. For the minister, it is necessary “to provide an appropriate offer from manufacturers and traders of this type of vehicle, as well as the necessary infrastructure to support the ambitious objectives defined by our country in terms of reducing carbon emissions. polluting gases contributing to global warming. »
