Jean-Marc Chatard, nicknamed “the man in blue”, was a figure in Limoges, always on a bicycle and in overalls. The 74-year-old retiree was killed in a road accident in early November. The town hall organized a blue march on Saturday November 16.

Jean-Marc Chatard was the most famous unknown person from Limoges (Haute-Vienne). Called “the man in blue”, the former mason always wore his overalls and boots. He had been traveling the roads on his bicycle for decades. He was fatally struck by a motorist last week. On the morning of Saturday, November 16, some residents, in overalls and boots, marched through the streets of the city.

I have known him forever (…). I wanted to pay tribute to a person who will be missed in my urban landscape”, confides a woman. The retiree's family marched at the head of the blue march procession. “His death is brutal, but today beyond our tears, we choose to remember him as he was, a man who, through his simplicity, his smile, was part of the soul of our city.” said Mathilde Lavergne, her great-niece. Limoges town hall is adorned with blue every evening of the week.
