Michel-Edouard Leclerc denounces “the ineptitude of the Mercosur agreement”Saturday November 16 on France Inter. The president of the mass distribution group E. Leclerc believes that it “do not sign” this free trade agreement between the European Union and the common market of South American countries, made up of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.

“We must not sign it because inside, we are doing the opposite of COP 21: we are letting products come in that do not meet our standards” and all this “without mirror clause”he laments. He also believes that “Europe is not equipped” to enforce its standards on incoming products.

The agreement with Mercosur is for him “obsolete” even before being signed: “It started to be negotiated fifteen years ago, it does not take into account progress in ecological matters, on deforestation, etc.”he assures.

“I agree that we must try to sell cars and not leave Latin America to the Chinese to sell their cars”he concedes. Europe hopes through this treaty to revive sales in its automobile industry. “But we must not sacrifice our national production, our food sovereignty”concludes the president of the Leclerc group.
