DECRYPTION – Visitors from China were largely absent from the strong recovery in post-Covid global tourism. Their attendance could return to around 70% of its 2019 level in France by the end of the year.
On the main boulevards in Paris, the parade of Chinese tourist buses has not regained its incessant pre-Covid rhythm. But it is no longer at a standstill. For months, these groups of hurried travelers had completely disappeared from the landscape. Here they are reappearing. Many small traders on these boulevards – perfumeries, pharmacies, etc. – were waiting for them like the Messiah. Department stores had to learn to do without them, targeting other customers, notably Parisians. They blow (a little).
