Côtes-d'Armor: denounced by his dealer, a man indicted and imprisoned for the murder of a septuagenarian

One crime, two convictions. A thirty-year-old was indicted and imprisoned for the murder of a 70-year-old man, found Wednesday lying on a lawn in Gouarec (Côtes-d'Armor), the Saint-Brieuc prosecutor's office announced on Friday.

A 43-year-old man had contacted the gendarmerie to report the crime, accusing one of his friends “with numerous criminal records”, said the public prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc, Nicolas Heitz, in a press release. During his hearing, this forty-year-old admitted that he had in reality come to deliver drugs to this house in the small town of Gouarec and that he had seen the body on this occasion.

At the same time, a passerby informed the police that she had seen a body on a lawn, about a hundred meters from the house in question.

In the afternoon, the GIGN arrested a 30-year-old individual there, who was immediately placed in police custody. He said he “tangled” with the victim on Tuesday November 12 and struck him, causing him to fall to the ground. “He explained that he then transported, alone, the victim in order to put him at the back of the parking lot and left him thinking that he was still alive,” recounted the Saint-Brieuc prosecutor.

Dealer tried and sentenced to two years in prison

The autopsy, however, revealed “several fractures and injuries to the face and thorax, as well as wounds to the upper limbs, particularly to the hands, made with a sharp object”, according to the magistrate. The 30-year-old was indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention in accordance with the prosecutor's orders.

As for the man who reported the crime, in whom investigators found a significant quantity of drugs (nearly 24 kg of cannabis resin, 1.4 kg of weed, 137 g of cocaine and 13 ecstasy tablets ), he was tried in an appearance on prior admission of guilt. He was sentenced to 24 months in prison, including 6 months suspended, then imprisoned.

The forty-year-old admitted selling narcotics “in large quantities via the Telegram application” and explained that he preferred to denounce the murder because “the one he thought was the perpetrator was dangerous”, according to the prosecution. No link has been established between the death of the victim and the drug trafficking revealed by the investigation, underlines the press release.
