The Food Bank collection will take place from November 22 to 24. A branch exists in Monistrol-sur-Loire, it manages the Marches du Velay-Rochebaron, Loire Semène and Haut-Pays du Velay sectors.
14% of the population lives below the poverty line, or €1,050 per month for a couple. “A malnourished person is a person who does not feel well,” estimates Jean-Marie Gueraud, president of the Haute-Loire Food Bank.
This association collects foodstuffs and redistributes them to its partners, associations such as Restos du coeur, Secours catholique, and local CCASs.
In 2023, across the department, 40 tonnes of food and hygiene products were collected during this collection for 140 tonnes distributed over the year. In the Monistrol sector, 11 tonnes were collected for a total of 15.9 tonnes distributed over the year. Added to this is the weekly pick-up at Carrefour Market and Intermarché. For this collection, 17 stores will be occupied by 150 volunteers in orange vests.
“We need food but also hygiene products. Diapers and sanitary napkins are the products we miss the most.”
