THE first frosts of autumn were recorded this Friday morning in Provence. Thanks to a clear night, the thermometer fell below zero degrees in many areas of Vaucluse and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
Bouches-du-Rhône and Var were also affected in areas further from the coast.
Avignon, Salon-de-Provence, Brignoles, many negative temperatures
In detail, we noted in Vaucluse -0.4°C in Carpentras, -0.9°C in Avignon, -1.9°C in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and until -4.7 in Saint-Christol (but at more than 800 m altitude).
In Bouches-du-Rhône, the thermometer dropped to -0.4°C at La Destrousse, -1.1°C in Cuges-les-Pinset -1.5°C in Salon-de-Provence.
The neighboring department of Var also recorded small frosts, as in Saint-Maximim-la-Sainte-Baume (-1.7°C) or Brignoles (-1.9°C).
Widespread frost in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence
But it is in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department, the most sensitive to the phenomenon, that frosts have been widespread or almost widespread.
Even if the thermometer did not display record values, we still noted this morning -2.8°C in Sisteron, -2.9°C in Digne-les-Bains, -3.4°C in Allos, -4.1°C in Castellane and until -6.3°C in Barcelonnette.
What is the weather in Provence this weekend?
The cool weather should persist in the morning in Provence over the weekend, and certain areas of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence could still experience frost according to Météo France forecasts. But the phenomenon will remain localized.
As for the sky, it promises to be clear over all departments on Saturday and Sunday, with the exception of possible thick clouds on Saturday in the west of Bouches-du-Rhône.
