Nanterre: a 19-year-old young man is hit by an RER, an RATP agent is in police custody

Following an intervention by an RATP security team, a 19-year-old young man fell on the rails and was struck by “a train arriving at the platform”Thursday November 14, around 1:30 p.m., according to Agence France-Presse, from corroborating sources.

The victim was seriously injured and transported conscious to hospital, but his life prognosis is not in jeopardy, several sources confirmed. An investigation into attempted homicide was opened and entrusted to the Ile-de-France network brigade (BRF), the Nanterre prosecutor's office told AFP, specifying that an agent was in custody.

In addition to the investigation into attempted homicide, RATP CEO Jean Castex requested that an internal investigation be immediately opened “in collaboration and transparency with the associations representing users who sit on the RATP Board of Directors”. The circumstances remain “to establish”also specified the RATP in a press release. The transport authority's victim assistance unit was also activated. Traffic was interrupted for part of the afternoon on certain sections of the RER A before resuming at the end of the day.

The mayor of Nanterre, Raphaël Adam (various left label), for his part affirmed in a press release that “the presence of numerous witnesses at the station, as well as the video surveillance cameras, should make it possible to establish how the events unfolded”. The councilor added that he had spoken with the parents of the young Nanterrian, in order tor “to express (one’s) support and that of the city” facing “this terrible ordeal”.
