A record number which resonates with the appointment Tuesday of Elon Musk, owner of The billionaire, head of Tesla and SpaceX, officially supported the Republican candidate in his race for the White House, and also provided funding to his campaign.

Since his purchase of Twitter, Elon Musk has largely relaxed the platform’s moderation rules, notably authorizing the return of accounts linked to far-right movements on the network.

Initially created and financed by Twitter itself, when the network was then led by its co-founder Jack Dorsey, Bluesky opened to the general public in February 2023 on Apple’s iOS operating system and at the end of March on Android. It is now headed by Jay Graber, general director of the platform.

The network claims 16 million users, strong growth for a platform which had 10 million in mid-September. It had already benefited from a spotlight at the end of 2022 when Elon Musk got his hands on Twitter, which he renamed X.

Threads, also an alternative to X and owned by Meta (parent company of Facebook and Instagram), claimed 175 million users in July, a year after its creation.
