This Sunday, November 17 at 5 p.m., the Millau Temple will welcome the Departmental Choir of Aveyron accompanied by organist Georges Lartigau.
They will give a concert “Mozart and the Lights” which is part of a project supported by the department entitled “These musicians who marked their time”. Georges Lartigau has held the organ of Mende since January 2021. After a long career as an organist and teacher in the Paris region, he moved closer to Rodez and taught in the conservatories of Aveyron, Corrèze and from La Creuse.
The direction of the Departmental Choir of Aveyron has been carried out since 2012 by Catherine Bassett who also directs the women's choir “Les Caramandi's” in Carmaux. She also created the “Orphéon” men’s choir in Blaye les Mines. Over the years, she asked Georges Lartigau several times to accompany the voices she directed, and this fruitful collaboration therefore continues with this new concert.
The Departmental Choir of Aveyron brings together twenty-five choristers from all over Aveyron. Its mission is to develop the practice of amateur choral singing in Aveyron and to perform mainly in rural areas to promote the dissemination of vocal music, with the support of the Departmental Council. But that does not prevent him from also giving concerts in cities such as Rodez, Millau or Albi.
As is the case with many choirs, new choristers are always welcome, for all sections. So, don't hesitate to come forward if the adventure tempts you. Rehearsals take place in the premises of the St Joseph La Salle college in Rodez once a month, on Saturday and/or Sunday.
The choir gives four to seven concerts per year, generally in Aveyron. This year, the choir is also accompanied on the organ to explore the classical repertoire. On the program this Sunday, Mozart's Missa brevis K 194 and Misericordias K 222, as well as an a cappella part with three motets by Michael Haydn (Caligaverunt oculi mei; Seniores populi; Judas mercator). The organ will also sound for a solo instrumental part, with works by Fanny Mendelssohn and Marius Gueit.
