Several associations including AutreCOM and Sos Oulala, already mobilized against the Lien (intercommunal northern bypass link) and the COM (west bypass of Montpellier) are calling for a bicycle demonstration this Sunday morning for “the abandonment of the ring road project Montpellier.

“On the eve of crucial legislative elections for our country, it is essential to fundamentally rethink mobility, especially in peri-urban and rural areas.” Based on this premise, several associations are calling for a bicycle demonstration this Sunday morning “for the abandonment of the Montpellier ring road project”a global formula which targets the northern intercommunal bypass link (LINK) and the western bypass of Montpellier (COM).

Freezing of alternative projects to the car

The stakeholder associations include AutreCOM, Sos Oulala, Bloque ton périph’, supported by the national coalition “La déroute des routes”. “The old road projects to bypass cities, dating back 30 years, such as the LIEN and the COM, will never succeed in solving the mobility problems which are at the heart of residents’ concerns” they write. Their leaders deplore, at the same time, the freezing of alternative projects to the car: “no capacity public transport between Gignac and Montpellier, no cycle paths on the outskirts of the metropolis (Saint-Jean-de-Védas, Celleneuve, Combaillaux, Vailhauquès).”

This Sunday’s event is organized in conjunction with Vélocité. Departure is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. from Peyrou and arrival scheduled for 1 p.m. on the banks of the Mosson.
