The Oilers force a final game to be held

After being down 0-3 in the series, the Oilers have been outscored 18-5 in three games.

Only the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs have lifted the Cup after losing the first three games of a final.

Zach Hyman and Adam Henrique also beat Sergei Bobrovsky, while Ryan McLeod and Darnell Nurse put the final touches into an empty net.

Hyman leads the playoff scorers by far with 16 goals.

The ultimate encounter will be presented Monday at 8 p.m. on Sunrise.

Stuart Skinner made 20 saves, only giving in to Aleksander Barkov in the third period. Bobrovsky blocked 16 shots.

Foegele scored at 7:27, after a Panthers turnover in the neutral zone.

From the right flank, Leon Draisaitl was patient before sliding the puck under Gustav Forsling’s stick, completing a cross-ice pass to Foegele. The latter scored with a one-timer, obtaining a fourth point in four games.

Hyman missed a great opportunity to double the lead late in the first period, on the power play. Placed directly in front of Bobrovsky’s goal, he let slip a very promising pass from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

The first period ended with Edmonton leading 11-2 in shots. Florida’s two tries were not dangerous and the second shot did not come until the 15th minute.

Henrique made it 2-0 46 seconds into the middle period, with a shot that first hit the inside of the right post. The key pass came from Mattias Janmark.

Ten seconds later, we thought the Panthers had made things worse with a goal from Barkov, after a solid breakthrough from Carter Verhaeghe. Barkov received the pass from him and converted the rebound with his own shot.

Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch appealed and replays showed it was offside.

Then, at 18:20 in the second period, Hyman dealt Florida a big blow with a backhand breakaway goal.

Brandon Montour of the Panthers saw his shot hit the post early in the third period.

Shortly after, Barkov scored with a nice fake at 1:28, after his team deployed a nice forecheck.

Edmonton has won the Stanley Cup five times, most recently in 1990.

In 2006, the Oilers were defeated in seven games in the final by the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Panthers were beaten in the final round in 1996 and 2023.
