Last April, we announced in our columns the closure of the unique and legendary Breteuil museum (Eure). THE Museum of Life and Trades of the Past welcomed its last visitors, “an adorable family from Ailly near Gaillon”, on October 30. This last visit allowed Lilian et Elisabeth Letourneur to reach 19,125 visitors in eleven years of activity.

A project born from tragedy

On Wednesday October 30, the museum then lowered the curtain one last time. A symbolic date for the couple whose son, Fabiendied on October 31, 2008 at the age of 24, following an illness.

The collection of old objects then became for Lilian and Elisabeth a way to rebuild themselves after the tragedy. It was in 2013 that they realized the project of opening their own museum in Breteuil.

A page that turns

During the closing ceremony on Sunday October 27, it was with a heavy heart that Lilian gave a very touching speech, retracing the history of their collection and thanking the people who took part in their project, volunteers, elected officials and partners.

In these last words, the collector does not hide his emotion… “Today, after monumental work, it is not without emotion that we are going to turn this page,” expresses Lilian before continuing.
