It was almost 3 p.m. this Thursday when a 76-year-old motorist was driving his Peugeot 308 in the direction Le Puy-en-Velay – Saint-Étienne.
Between Saint-Hostien and Le Pertuis, he might have felt unwell or fallen asleep. He then lost control of his vehicle, first hitting the left front of a heavy goods vehicle going in the other direction, then a Citroën C3 with four people on board.
Three vehicles involved
Following the accident, the driver of the 308 Peugeot was slightly injured. He was taken to the Firminy hospital center.
The two rear passengers in the Citroën C3 were also injured. The man and woman, aged 68, were transported in a relative emergency to the Émile-Roux hospital center in Puy-en-Velay.
Alternating traffic while waiting for vehicle repairs
Around ten gendarmes from Saint-Julien-Chapteuil and Monastier-sur-Gazeille were mobilized, with reinforcements from the motorized brigade, to respond to the accident.
Sixteen firefighters from Saint-Julien-Chapteuil, Yssingeaux, Beaulieu, Rosières and Retournac were also on site, as well as agents from the DIR. Traffic was alternated while waiting for the Peugeot 308 and the Citroën C3 to be towed.
The heavy goods vehicle, for its part, was able to leave and change its damaged tires further on, its driver was unharmed.
