This week, we’re visiting Ornella’s apartment!

Ornella is the founder of wab agency, a creative agency specializing in strategy, social media and influence. Her passion is not limited to her work: she is also a fervent epicurean, loving cooking and entertaining friends in the warm atmosphere of her home. Alongside her lively social life, Ornella also knows how to appreciate the tranquility of her daily life. Fan of slow living, she likes to spend time at home, immersed in reading and listening to music, a great passion inherited from her father, a former DJ. Her apartment, decorated with flowers and lit by candles, perfectly reflects her taste for an atmosphere cozy and soothing.

Q: How many rooms are there in the apartment?

It’s a 3 1/2 with a closed room!

Q: How long have you lived in this apartment?

I have lived here since August 2022, so almost 2 years.

Q: How did you find this apartment?

On Marketplace and it was a really big move honestly! I fell in love with the apartment as soon as I saw it. In the photos, it was empty and had just been renovated, which explained why it was available from August and not July. When I visited it around July 29, I already had another apartment. I was the first to visit it and I didn’t want to miss this opportunity, so I signed straight away. A line of people was waiting in the street just below! I managed to cancel my lease the same evening as the visit and moved into this accommodation two weeks later.

Q: What first charmed you?

The cleanliness of the premises was impeccable, given that the apartment had just been renovated. It really felt like an empty shell for me, a playground where I could decorate however I wanted.

Compared to my old apartment, a 3 1/2 with an open bedroom, the closed bedroom here is a big plus. The terrace, which I consider to be the centerpiece of the apartment, offers a magnificent view while remaining intimate, despite the location in the heart of the village.

Q: How much is the rent?

$1300 and it will increase in August to $1350.

Q: What is your favorite room in the apartment?

I think it was the living room and the dining room that appealed to me the most. The size and layout of the rooms are perfect: cozy while remaining easily passable. It’s ideal for entertaining guests and is where I spend the majority of my time. Otherwise, I really fell in love with the terrace, but I definitely enjoy it less during the year.

Q: What are your favorite pieces of furniture in the apartment?

My chairs in the dining room that I found on Marketplace, my sideboard and my dresser in my bedroom! I like to play with different shades of wood; it adds warmth while remaining neutral.

Q: What inspired your decor?

What inspired my decor was mainly minimalism. No matter how my style evolves, I always tend towards a very refined aesthetic. I like simplicity where each element counts, focusing on statement pieces. Currently, I favor a contemporary style with mid-century furniture. To add color and textures, I like to play with lamps, vases and other decorative objects.

Q: What are your favorite decoration stores? Where do you find your decorative items?

I often find my items at H&M Home, Zone Maison, VdeV, Simons, EQ3. Otherwise for small decorative items like vases and candles, I find them at Ex-Voto.

Q: Does your apartment have a quirk (failure)?

It’s very hot during the summer! [Rires] Otherwise I would say that the biggest drawback of the apartment is that there is a lunch restaurant just below, so it can often smell of potatoes and bacon at 9am in the morning. It’s very livable, but it requires me to be proactive about essential oils and candles. [Rires]

Q: Why did you choose the Village?

Because the apartment was located there. [Rires] Actually, my best friend lives 4 minutes away so it’s very cool. I quickly realized that everything I needed was within reach: the butcher, the bakery, the cheese shop, all just down the road from my house. The metro is a short walk away, and La Fontaine Park is barely 5 minutes away.

Q: What are your favorite places in the neighborhood?

There is L’aPero buvette which is right opposite! Which is a small neighborhood bar run by two women, only open on Thursdays and Fridays with very nice products. Otherwise the Taverne Marion for a vibe more relaxed.

If people want to eat the best croissant in Montreal, you absolutely have to go to Boulangerie Pain à Tartine. The establishment is run by French people, and as a French person myself, I recommend it 100%. You have to go there early in the morning when they are still warm and soft, it’s delicious.

There is Café Sfouf right here, otherwise Café Kujira a little further away, for excellent coffee! The baristas are lovely and it’s very beautiful inside. A good classic, the Mousso at the end of the street. Always very very good!

Finally, there is Le Moqueur which is a New Orleans style restaurant. It’s super beautiful and really good.
