On June 22, Roanne will be the first stage of the Olympic flame in the Loire, carried through the streets of the city from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Yves Nicolin, mayor of Roanne and president of Roannais Agglomération, warns: “You will have to get up early to see the flame pass through Roanne”. In reality, it was the Department of the Loire which validated the arrival of the event on its territory. It is logical that the flame will pass through the flagship city in the north of the department. Everything will start a little before 9 a.m., at the Stade Malleval, where the first torchbearer will set off towards Bords de Loire 2, the work on which will end before June 22. The route is 4.4 kilometers long and largely resembles the one taken in the streets of Roanne last year during the Tour de France. “Safety is very important and organization is meticulous. It is an event that must count for our city and we hope that as many Roannais as possible can benefit from the passing of the flame” adds Yves Nicolin.
Many activities during the day
From the evening before, parking will be prohibited on the entire route. Many city services are mobilized to prepare for this major event. Initially, in Malleval, 24 athletes suffering from Down syndrome will be present to highlight adapted sport. Among the activities planned throughout the route, we will find BMX demonstrations, giant inflatable structures but also a flash mob from Roannais dance schools upon the arrival of the flame. “This arrival of the flame reinforces the status of our active and sporting city. We could not miss such an event” concludes the mayor of Roanne. June 22 is a doubly key date for the city which organizes its traditional music festival the same evening, also in the Bords de Loire 2 space. It is therefore an exceptional sporting and cultural day which awaits the Roannais, hoping that the weather will be good…

Parking on the route will be prohibited from midnight on Friday evening and traffic prohibited from 5:30 a.m. on the morning of June 22. The latter will be reopened as soon as the flame has arrived in the Bords de Loire 2 space.
