Ten years ago, in July 2014, the Havre Nord fire and rescue centerin the Dollemard district, replacing the Dumé d’Aplemont barracks located in the city center of Le Havre (Seine-Maritime) and the Octeville-sur-Mer fire and rescue center.

Looking for volunteer and professional firefighters

As part of the civil security weekend, but also to celebrate this tenth anniversary, the firefighters of the Havre Nord barracks are organizing a day open house Saturday June 22, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m..

The opportunity for the population to enter this usually closed place but also to interact with the firefighters who work there. THE 70 professional firefighters and 30 volunteers will indeed be keen to share their daily lives and why not to encourage vocations.

“We always have needs because there is a turn over among volunteers but also among professionals,” explains Commander Margrit, head of the Havre Nord fire and rescue center. Prerequisites to apply for membership in the fire service: “Want to help others and be available. »

Regarding age, you must be at least 16 years old to train and 18 years old to go on an intervention.

Personal assistance, fire…

This Saturday, June 22, in partnership with the White Cross and the national gendarmerie, various workshops will be organized and machines exhibited. “The children will be able to get into the trucks, try on helmets, go on courses…”, says Commander Margrit. Of the prevention tips will also be given by the firefighters.

Because if the tasks of the firefighters evolve with “a lot of rescue interventions”, “despite everything, our basic mission is fire”, insists the head of the Havre Nord center, which also houses the The specialized Grimp team (the Reconnaissance and Intervention Group in dangerous environments).

Also, a “smoke workshop” will allow the public to understand the loss of bearings in the event of a fire.
