F1: Lance Stroll extends his contract for at least two seasons with Aston Martin

The fate of Quebec Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll is now sealed: he will remain with the Aston Martin team for at least two seasons.

The British team indicated in a press release Thursday morning that Stroll will still drive for it “after the adoption of the new regulations” which will come into force in 2026, thus putting an end to rumors about his future in the premier series of the sports car.

“I am super happy to be able to stay with the team for 2025 and beyond. It’s fabulous to see how far we’ve come over the past five years; our team has grown considerably and there is still a lot of potential to be exploited,” Stroll said in a press release.

This is the latest development in the F1 driver market, after the Alpine team announced earlier today that Frenchman Pierre Gasly had agreed a multi-season pact with them.

The announcement of Stroll’s contract extension with the Silverstone-based team comes ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, after he hinted his future plans would be revealed “soon”.

Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack added that the team is “honoured” to be able to continue its relationship with Stroll for many years to come.

“He played a key role in the development of this team and his technical observations, as well as his dedication in the simulator, contributed to the constant development of the car from one season to the next,” he said. said.

Stroll made his Formula 1 debut in 2017, with Williams. After two seasons with this team, he moved to Racing Point.

This team changed its name to Aston Martin in 2021, after the team was bought by a consortium led by his father, Lawrence Stroll.

The announcement of the extension of Stroll’s contract means that the Aston Martin driver duo will remain the same for a third consecutive season, next year, since Fernando Alonso has also extended his association with the team.

“The consistency and stability that Lance and Fernando bring by remaining with the team is wonderful for our platform to achieve our goals. We look forward to creating new memories and enjoying even more success with them,” concluded Krack.

Since his debut in Formula 1, Stroll has taken part in 153 Grands Prix, reaching the podium three times. He is still looking for his first victory and has not been on the podium since the 2020 season.

This season, the Quebecer is 11th in the driver standings, with 17 points. Alonso is ninth, with 41 points.

Aston Martin is in fifth place in the manufacturer rankings.
