Traveling to Paris, following an invitation from the GAVI initiative and the African Union, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye participated this Thursday in the Global Forum for Vaccine Sovereignty and Innovation. This high-level meeting marks the launch of the initiative called “Accelerator of Vaccine Production in Africa (AVIMA)”.

Thus in a press release from the Presidency dated June 20 received by Pressafrik, it is noted that “the President of the Republic will, at the end of his participation in the Forum, have lunch with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron”.

The presidency announced that “His Excellency Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal, spoke with the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, on the sidelines of the Global Forum for Vaccine Innovation and Sovereignty, this Thursday, June 20, 2024, in Paris. During this first exchange, the two heads of state expressed their common desire to give new impetus to the partnership between Senegal and France, based on mutual respect, a balanced partnership serving the mutual interests of both peoples, united by shared democratic values, by a human bond and a relationship of friendship.”

Adding that “The two Presidents discussed the common challenges to be met to continue and strengthen cooperation in sectors that contribute to greater sovereignty for Senegal. They agreed to strengthen structuring projects in various sectors including energy transition, health, professional training, local production of vaccines and agriculture.

“The two counterparts welcomed their joint desire to strengthen the quality of the partnership between France and Senegal,” we read in the press release.
