The reaction of the Savoie prefecture was immediate. Concretely, the association accuses the slaughterhouse of animal abuse and files a complaint for acts of cruelty and mistreatment for 10 serious breaches. In the images, it is possible to see lambs positioned in the wrong direction before being slaughtered. We also see the animals moving while they are being cut up. These assertions are refuted by the slaughterhouse which details “isolated errors” and “nervous movements occurring after brain death of the animal”.

“The findings of non-compliance which appear on the video will be the subject of an in-depth analysis by the prefecture services, in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry,” specifies the prefecture in a press release. Before adding : “Appropriate follow-ups will be implemented concerning the slaughter conditions, the documented procedures and the system of monitoring and self-monitoring of these procedures by the slaughterhouse.”

A decision welcomed by L214 which “welcomes the responsiveness of the authorities and the decision taken by state services”this Thursday. Nevertheless, the association decided to take action against the State for “failure to fulfill its veterinary control mission”. She also renews her request for a general audit of slaughterhouses to the Minister of Agriculture, Annie Genevard.
