To the question “what constitutes quality of life on a daily basis?” », security issues come in the top 3 answers according to the Ipsos barometer. The security contracts for the Small Towns of Tomorrow were therefore created in 2020, which all the mayors of the 16 municipalities concerned took over, with the signing, this Wednesday, of conventions between the Prefecture of the Ardennes, the national gendarmerie and the last 3 municipalities having subscribed to this optional system: Givet, Vireux-Molhain and Mouzon.

Colonel Richard Pelatan, Commander of the Ardennes Departmental Gendarmerie Group, discusses the variation of this system

This system therefore allows the implementation of additional resources for the benefit of everyone's safety, in municipalities with 2,000 to 20,000 inhabitants. A “toolbox” created by elected officials, with the aim of building a territorial project, with all the partners of the system.

However, this agreement is only a “formalization” of what already exists, as explained by the Mayor of Givet, Robert Itucci.

Other systems exist for other municipalities, not affected by this state system, where the action of the national gendarmerie for the safety of all is just as present and effective.
