The accident immediately caused numerous traffic jams and long waiting times.
A serious chain collision involving 12 trucks and a car occurred on the E19 in Antwerp towards the Netherlands on Wednesday evening. It completely blocked the highway near Sint-Job-in-‘t-Goor and treatment will take some time, says the Flemish Traffic Center.
The Traffic Center is asking motorists to avoid the area. A longer diversion is planned for those who need to travel to the Netherlands from Antwerp, via the A12 and Bergen op Zoom.
No immediate local diversion is possible for the traffic behind the accident, the traffic center further indicates, because the collision occurred just before the Sint-Job exit and, from Kleine Bareel to Sint-Job for kilometers , there is no ramp or exit through which traffic can be evacuated. Therefore, there is a long traffic jam on the E19.
The Federal Highway Police said 12 trucks and one car were involved. The car found itself stuck between two trucks, but its occupants were freed. Five people were injured, one seriously, but none are in danger of death.
Six of the vehicles involved must be towed. This could take some time, according to the traffic center, especially since towing services are having difficulty reaching the accident site.
