Two classes at the school of the Marcel-Pagnol school group in Meyzieu in the metropolis of Lyon were affected by a fire Wednesday June 19, 2024 around 6:30 p.m., announced the mayor of the town.

“A fire destroyed two classes and rendered 11 unusable at the Marcel-Pagnol school group. The school is closed for an indefinite period. 250 students are relocated to the Jean-Moulin center. The City condemns this act and acts with the firefighters and the police,” wrote elected LR Christophe Quiniou on X.

Four fires were observed near the school, which favors the possibility of arson.

Additionally, according to exclusive information fromnews Lyon, two individuals leaving the scene were reportedly seen by a witness. The latter was questioned by police investigators.

Students will not be able to finish the school year

“The fire is now under control, but the damage caused will prevent elementary students from finishing the school year in their class,” lamented the municipality of eastern Lyon in a press release.

Parents were invited to keep their children at home this Thursday. An investigation was opened to determine the circumstances of the fire.
