Voices of Canada cohort at DOC NYC – Industry Roundtables

DOC NYC is proud to partner with the Consulate General of Canada in New York and Telefilm Canada as part of an industry program VOICES OF CANADA which will allow a delegation of Canadian filmmakers whose works are currently being produced (Work-in-progress) to participate in the festival DOC NYCat the conference DOC NYC PRO Industry and at industry roundtables.

The program VOICES OF CANADA INDUSTRY ROUNDTABLES provides the opportunity for Canadian filmmakers whose works are currently being produced (feature films or series) to present their projects live to industry figures in the fields of distribution, financing, advertising, marketing , social impact, and more. The program aims to select the most promising documentaries for submission to the industry’s attention, and to choose projects from a competitive pool of online submissions.

Selected teams will present their project live to industry figures in retail, philanthropic funding, financing, public relations, marketing, social impact, festival programming, and more. Former industry representatives include Amazon Studios, Blue Ice Docs, A&E, ABC News Studios, Black Public Media, Chicken & Egg Pictures, Cinephil, Cinetic Media, Conde Nast (The New Yorker), Disney+, Disney’s Onyx Collective, ESPN Films, Fifth Season (formerly Endeavor Content ), Firelight Media, HBO, IFC Films, Hulu, Impact Partners, Imagine Entertainment, IDA, Kickstarter, MTV Documentary Films, National Geographic, Netflix, NBC News Studios, NEON, Paramount+. Participant, POV, Showtime Documentary, Sony Pictures Classics, Story Syndicate, Submarine Entertainment, Sundance Institute, The New York Times, Topic Studios, Vice Media, WME Agency, WNETetc.

Industry roundtables Voices of Canada will take place in person at the Consulate General of Canada in New York from November 14 to 16, 2024. Selected teams will receive an “All-Access” badge for the Festival and DOC NYC PRO. Teams that meet the eligibility criteria of the International Promotion Program from Telefilm Canada will receive a travel grant of $1,000 CAD to cover part of their travel expenses to attend the event.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Works in progress submitted must have at least 50% of their budget available.
  • The applicant must be a Canadian-controlled corporation within the meaning of the Investment Canada Act and have its head office in Canada.
  • Selected teams must be able to travel to participate in activities held in New York from November 14 to 16, 2024.

Note that this program is not intended for films that intend to hold their world premiere at DOC NYC in November 2024. Film teams who would like their films to be considered for the festival DOC NYC must submit their projects on the main submission page of DOC NYC (https://filmfreeway.com/DOCNYC).
