Amadou supports the first barrel of oil and the reduction in prices: “I have always kept my distance from the debate (…) because it is good to be able to build Senegal without oil or gas”

Voiceless since his defeat against the current head of state during the last presidential election, the former Prime Minister and unsuccessful candidate of the old regime in this presidential election of March 24, Amadou Ba, took the floor to give his opinion on certain issues related to current events. Questioned by journalists as he left the Omarian Mosque where he had just taken part in the prayers for the feast of Eid el Kébir, commonly called Tabaski, Amadou Ba stressing that the economic benefits of oil exploitation will not be realized not feel immediately, invited the Senegalese to be patient after the production of the first barrel of oil from the Sangomar field. “I am delighted with the first barrel which we were already expecting in 2021. You see that it is in 2024 that we have it, this first barrel. I have always kept a distance from the crucial debate on the exploitation of oil and gas because it is good to be able to build Senegal without oil or gas. Oil and gas are strategic products, very useful, but also whose varying prices can have an impact,” he noted before addressing the population. “It is imperative to wait at least four or five years after the start of exploitation to begin to observe the concrete effects of oil and gas on our country. This is a subject of vital importance to which I will return later to provide a more in-depth assessment.”
