Monday November 11, 2024, at the Lucien Desprats sports complex in Cahorsthe school of Rugby at XIII organized the Jean Quaranta Tournamentas he has done for 40 years.
It was a new success to the credit of the volunteers and Cahors XIII, as well as the president of the rugby school Stéphanie Baldy.
400 young 13-a-side rugby players gathered in Cahors
In fact, no less than fifty teams from 11 clubs (from Lot-et-Garonne, Haute-Garonne, Aveyron, Tarn, etc.), i.e. 400 children, aged 6 to 13, played matches, in a setting where respect and fair play were essential. Following the wishes of the rugby school, there was no ranking. All the children left with a reward. However, trophies were awarded to young players in each level group. These young people, boys and girls, have been detected as future rugby league talents.
For the U7s, these are Nacim from Toulouse Olympique, Souan d'Albi and Rocky from Cahors; for the U9s, Sacha and Enzo from the Albi team and Gaëtan from Pujols; for the U11s of Ulysse from the Jules-Julien club, Maé d'Albi, Stella d'Albi and Lucien from Toulouse Olympique; and for the U13s of Nathan de Villeneuve, Paul de Cahors, Léna de Lescure and Hames de Jules-Julien.
The Albi team, which won the most matches, received a special trophy in the colors of Cahors XIII, just like that of Clairac, which is the team with the fewest players.
Focus on the rugby league school
This season, the Cahors rugby league school, which trains every Wednesday afternoon at the Lucien Desprats stadium, brings together around forty young people, from 6 to 13 years old. Specificity of rugby league, at the rugby school, there is no classification. The ranking starts at U15.
To start playing rugby league, the qualities required are to have good team spirit, to run fast and to enjoy contact. Rugby league, like any team sport, provides young people with discipline and respect for the rules.
Stéphanie Baldy welcomes, this year, the strong involvement of parents, in the rugby school office, which has been renewed. Frédéric Baldy coaches the babies. Cadet players are educators at the rugby league school. The youngest children are trained by two dads, Paul Casonato and Jean-Michel Eyrolles. The juniors, the U11s, are coached by the departmental technical agent, Thomas Gailhard. It should be noted that the Minimes team is in agreement with Villefranche-de-Rouergue. A rapprochement with Aveyron which can be explained by the fact that the Cadurcian rugby union school is the only one in the Lot, with that of Catus.
Soon, the youngest, the U13s will compete in the 8e in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue, against the Limoux team. The U15s will play against the XIII Gascon, which is a group of clubs from Lot-et-Garonne. At the end of each season, the rugby league school goes on vacation. In June, the young people went to Perpignan. The plan for 2026 would be to go to England.
