Eileen Collins, American astronaut, arrived in Reunion this Sunday, November 10. Invited by the Océinde group, she will participate in the inauguration of a Data Center.
Eileen Collins became the first woman to pilot a space shuttle in 1995. This woman achieved her dream despite a difficult childhood. She tells us about her journey.
“For me, becoming an astronaut is a dream come true. I wanted to be an astronaut since I was 9, I joined the program at 33. Being in space is a human experience, your body changes, but that's good, it's an experience you can't have on earth.
When I was growing up, my parents didn't have a lot of money so at 16 I started working at restaurants, golf and church. I saved enough money to pay for my flight lessons. I am sure that the difficulties encountered during my childhood made me stronger“.
