Montrealers who want accommodation must pay much more than last year if they want to rent a one-bedroom apartment in the Quebec metropolis, according to a study by Zumper.

In fact, the cost of a room is now $1,730 in Montreal, an increase of 9.5% compared to June 2023, according to data from the report published on June 13.

The increase also affects two-bedroom apartments, the price of which climbs to $2,230, which represents a jump of 6.2%.

This places Montreal as the 13th most expensive apartment for rent in Canada. Quebec City is ranked 20th among the most expensive in the country.

The price of a one-bedroom apartment in Quebec is $1,370, an increase of 17.1% between June 2023 and 2024. This figure represents the third largest increase of the year, behind Edmonton and Winnipeg.

For two rooms, the price is $1,710 in the old capital, or 8.9% more than in 2023.

Elsewhere in Canada

British Columbia is the most expensive Canadian province to rent one or two rooms. Three of the top five cities, Vancouver (1st place), Burnaby (3rd place) and Victoria (4th place), are among the most expensive in the country.

Despite a drop of 0.8% for one bedroom and 2.2% for two bedrooms, the city of Toronto is in second place in the ranking. Halifax completes the top 5 in this study.
