They will receive respectively 10,000 euros for Lurs and 35,000 euros for that of Saint-Léger-les-Mélèzes.
The Heritage Foundation has announced the list of one hundred religious buildings selected in the territory “as part of the collection for the safeguarding of the religious heritage of the villages of France”. Among the six in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, two are in the two departments of the Southern Alps.
These are the church of Saint-Léger-les-Mélèzes in the Hautes-Alpes as well as that of the Invention-de-la-Sainte-Croix in Lurs, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
Prizes of several thousand euros
They will receive respectively 10,000 euros for Lurs and 35,000 euros for that of Saint-Léger-les-Mélèzes, out of the 16.7 million euros collected during the national collection of the Heritage Foundation.
Work should be completed in early 2025 for the Church of the Invention of the Holy Cross in Lurs. At the start of the second half of 2025, work on the Saint-Léger-les-Mélèzes church will begin and should be completed by the end of 2025.
“The restoration of the roof of the church and the bell tower will make it possible, as a priority, to make the building safe and to compensate for the infiltration of rainwater which degrades the interior vaults and the painted decorations,” specifies the Heritage Foundation in a press release concerning the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence building.
“The restoration of the church and its enhancement are part of the perspective of a shared use combining vocation and cultural function,” continues the press release for the Haut-Alpine church.
