A tornado struck the town of Carlepont in Oise this Tuesday, June 18, late in the afternoon. Two streets were damaged according to Mayor Patrice Argier, who specified that no injuries were reported.

“It was impressive”. A tornado crossed the town of Carlepont in Oise, as explained by Oise Hebdo this Tuesday, June 18. It was around 5:30 p.m. that the wind tube formed, as shown in videos shared on social networks.

The mayor of the town, Patrice Argier, explained to the local press that “significant damage” was to be deplored in part of the village, “particularly two streets”. According to Actu Oise, damage is particularly visible on roofs.

“I saw it start, it was impressive,” described the mayor.

“Making safe what can be made safe”

If there are “a priori” no victims to deplore, the councilor specifies that a command post will be set up by the firefighters, with the aim of “putting into safety what can be being”. Emergency services were mobilized at 6 p.m.

The Oise department is currently concerned by a yellow alert for rain, floods and storms. However, the alert level is not at orange level, unlike 12 French departments. The Oise prefecture had also not communicated about a particular risk.

For its part, the Keraunos Observatory mentions on its internet a risk of formation of 15 to 30% in stormy areas this Tuesday. These meteorological phenomena are rare but not unprecedented in France. Last month, a snorkel was seen in Eure-et-Loir.
