It's a barely believable story. In the emergency department of Langres, in Haute-Marne, certain patients are taken care of… in the establishment's garage. This is the situation in which Gérard Claudet found himself on October 27. The man, treated in the emergency room of the small Langres hospital for intestinal inflammation, found himself in the establishment's garage, due to lack of space.
“Where do our taxes go”?
“This garage is simply infamous. We separate the patients with a screen, we put a sheet over it and that's it. There is mechanical ventilation and a hell of a noise, it's incredible. there are no toilets, you have nothing: it's a garage”, he was alarmed at the microphone of Europe 1.
“Where do our taxes go”, protests Gérald who wrote to the Ministry of Health, even if he salutes the kindness of caregivers “as idle as me” he assures. Yann Grisval, Force Ouvrière delegate at Langres hospital, denounces this recurring situation since 20 beds out of 100 were eliminated in three years in the establishment.
An inspection already carried out in 2023
“It’s a political choice that was clearly made,” criticizes the Force Ouvrière delegate. “Governments for years have said 'We are going to limit health insurance spending and in particular everything related to hospitalizations and the entire hospital sphere. So, we have degraded working conditions, we have discouraged colleagues who have left the hospital and now, it is complicated to bring back new professionals. We remain chronically understaffed to be able to reopen beds,” he is alarmed.
The ARS of the Grand Est, which had already ordered an inspection in 2023, says it is carrying out investigations to put a definitive end to this “unacceptable” situation. The Langres hospital has not yet responded to our requests.
