Different massifs woke up covered in a white coat this Tuesday, November 12 due to the drop in temperatures combined with the return of humidity.
This moment was expected in the Southern Alps. The first snow of the season fell during the night of Monday November 11 to Tuesday November 12 in the middle mountains.
The combination of falling temperatures and the return of humidity has allowed certain massifs to take on a white coat, explains Kévin Floury, journalist with the BFMTV weather service.
The snow “holds on the roads from around 1400/1500m”, reports meteorologist Gaétan Heymes on X, supporting webcam images from Auron, Isola 2000, Pra Loup and Puy-Saint-Vincent . Also in Serre-Chevalier, the slopes took on a white tone.
The sun returns on Wednesday
Consequence of these snowfalls: heavy goods vehicles weighing more than 26 tonnes are now deprived of access to the Col de Montgenèvre in both directions of traffic. In the morning, around twenty trucks were blocked on the national 94 on the French side, BFM DICI noted on site.
In this meteorological context, the Hautes-Alpes and the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence are placed on snow-ice yellow vigilance by Météo-France until mid-afternoon this Tuesday.
According to meteorologist Paul Marquis, “we will have to wait until Wednesday for the sun to return everywhere to the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region after the passage of this cold drop.”
