The first secretary of the PS attacked a declaration of support from François Hollande in Libération, against the backdrop of the upcoming battle for the party congress in 2025.
The next congress of the Socialist Party? No specific date at this time, except that the event will be held in 2025. Its candidates? Same, no one has officially declared themselves yet.
What we do know, however, is that the event will take place against the backdrop of a strategy to be defined in view of the 2027 presidential election, while the party regained its colors in the European elections and then in the early legislative elections which followed. . And that the battle promises to be tough, after the re-election by a hair of Olivier Faure in Marseille in January 2023, also punctuated by accusations of cheating.
Another certainty: the internal war has already begun. On the one hand, those who want to reaffirm the social democratic line and put an end to the current first secretary, who is accused of being too close to the rebels. On the other hand, the latter, as well as his supporters, are in favor of a joint candidacy from the left for the queen election.
Returning to business this summer during the early legislative elections, François Hollande – who is “not indifferent” to 2027 – is part of the first camp.
“Pantheon of sexism”
This Monday, November 11, a battle of arms opposed the two trends. Starting point of the sequence: a story published by Libération evoking the internal rebellion that Olivier Faure faces before the congress and more broadly the future of the left. A passage returns to the role of arbiter that environmentalists could play between rebels and socialists during the next presidential election.
A supporter of François Hollande accuses the party's national secretary, Marine Tondelier, of playing into the hands of the former. In reference to his green jacket, which became emblematic during the last legislative elections, he says:
“Tondelier does the job for LFI, she has a green jacket but her underwear is red.”
In the evening, Olivier Faure reacted on X, not missing the opportunity to refocus his opponents. “The courageous anonymous person will be able to find his place in the Pantheon of sexism. Not that in the Socialist Party which is a party which has made feminism its fight,” wrote the first secretary. Before presenting his “apologies” to Marine Tondelier “for these perfectly inappropriate comments that nothing excuses.”
Tondelier denounces these remarks both on “the form” and on “the substance”
“Support from a former president should not say that,” replied the latter on X this Tuesday, November 12.
The national secretary of the Ecologists denounces these remarks both on the “questionable and sexist form”, as on “the substance”, writing: “The Ecologists are Ecologists. They are determined neither in relation to rebellious France, nor in relation to the Socialist Party. They decide in relation to Ecology and I will remind you of this as much as necessary.”
