Saint-Agnant-de-Versillat. Les Féminines Versillacoises “Les Taupes” fly over the Creuse. The Versilla Sports Union (USV) has written a new page in its sporting history thanks to its women’s team, affectionately nicknamed “The Moles”. After 54 years of existence, the club has finally won the long-awaited double: the first division championship and the Coupe de la Creuse. This feat is the result of an exceptional season under the direction of Thomas Ovan, assisted by Gilles Penot, Jean-Louis Ovan and Matys Pradillon.

“It’s a historic moment”

On May 18, the Green and White won the title of first division champions with an impressive record of 19 wins in 22 matches, scoring 64 goals and conceding only 16. However, it was on June 8 that the USV truly made history by winning the club’s first Coupe de la Creuse title.

The final, played against the equally determined Mérinchal team, kept all its promises. From the first period, the Versillacoises displayed their domination, returning to the locker room with a 2-0 lead, thanks to a double from the essential Marie Colombier. However, the second half saw the Mérinchaloises come back to score with two goals from Ophélie Geaix.

As the tension rose to a fever pitch, Marie Colombier once again showcased her talent by scoring a third goal ten minutes from time, bringing her personal total to 36 goals for the season. But the Mérinchaloises have not said their last word: two minutes before the final whistle, a penalty converted by Ophélie Geaix allowed regulation time to end with a score of 3-3.

A winner was needed and the penalty shootout decided the fate of this thrilling final. The Moles were able to keep their cool and ultimately triumphed, bringing the Coupe de la Creuse back to Saint-Agnant-de-Versillat for the first time.

Sophie Penot, the emblematic captain of the team, expressed the joy and pride of the entire team: “This is a historic moment for our club. Winning this double is a reward for all the work and sacrifices made by the players and staff.”

This victory is also recognition of the hard work of the technical management. Thomas Ovan, head coach, said: “Our girls showed exemplary determination and solidarity throughout the season. This victory is deserved and I am immensely proud of them.”
