Sport and leisure: the Department inaugurates the 3×3 Basketball courts at the Oxygers holiday center in Arreau
The Gers Departmental Council has inaugurated two new 3×3 basketball courts at the Oxygers holiday center in Arreau. These infrastructures are part of the ongoing modernization of this emblematic site, intended to offer young Gers residents quality and diversified sports facilities.
For several years, the Department has invested heavily in the Oxygers holiday center, renovating the Louron and Montious buildings in particular to guarantee users, and in particular Gers schools, optimal reception conditions. With the establishment of these 3×3 basketball courts, carried out in response to the call for projects “Terres de Jeux” from the National Sports Agency (ANS) to promote Olympic disciplines with a view to the Paris 2024 Games, the site is enriched by a new activity.
These two basketball courts, designed in accordance with the specifications of the French Basketball Federation (FFB), occupy the space of a traditional “5 against 5” basketball court and complete an already well-stocked sports offering: swimming pool , beach volleyball court, football/rugby field, archery area, and “Bike Parc” with pump track and mountain bike circuits.
An investment of 1.1 million euros to modernize the site
The renovation project is part of an overall operation to repair the wet networks and develop the center's outdoor spaces. It represents a total investment of 1.1 million euros, including 187,944 euros devoted to the 3×3 basketball courts. This funding was possible thanks to contributions from the National Sports Agency (€39,648), the Hautes-Pyrénées Departmental Council (€36,500), the French Basketball Federation (€2,000), and self-financing of €109,796 by the Gers Departmental Council.
The inauguration of these 3×3 basketball courts resonates all the more with the Gersois and young users of the center as it comes in the wake of the emotion aroused by the silver medal of the French men's basketball team 3×3 at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Oxygers center is thus positioned as a place conducive to the practice and discovery of Olympic sports, offering young people the opportunity to draw inspiration from champions and learn new disciplines.
