Guarantee the safety of road users and allow the economic life of the region to continue without interruption. These are the issues of winter service plan put in place, from Tuesday November 12, 2024, by the Department of Essonne for to watch THE 1 500 km of departmental road network.
Until March 31, 2025, surveillance, prevention and control actions against the road consequences of winter phenomena such as ice, snow or snowdrifts, will be put in place.
Real-time monitoring of climatic conditions
In each of the three territorial units (Lisses for the northeast sector, Linas for the northwest sector and Étampes for the south sector), teams composed of controllers, patrol officers and works agents are permanently mobilized.
Every day, these teams receive a local weather report, which they cross-reference with data from road weather stations and the condition of the roadways.
A command post based in Évry-Courcouronnes centralizes the various information in real time: traffic conditions, weather data, processing carried out, in order to best coordinate actions on the ground.
Sensors on board patrol cars
The services are then responsible for salt and/or clear snow from the road according to predefined circuits.
Pour reduce costs and environmental impact operations, the Department's vehicles have been equipped with innovative devices such as on-board sensors and electronic frost depth indicators.
This allows in particulart to adjust the salting operations and the quantities of salt dumped on the roadways.
Winter viability in Essonne in figures:
• 90 agents mobilized 7 days a week, 24 hours a day
• 29 circuits including 4 carried out in control
• 20 patrol vehicles
• 6 weather stations
• 6 sensors embedded in vehicles
• 9 electronic frost depth indicators
