New regulations for wild boar hunting

This year, notable changes have been made to wild boar hunting regulations in Haute-Garonne, aimed at controlling the population and preventing the risk of road collisions and damage to crops and green spaces. From June 1 to August 14, 2024, wild boar hunting is authorized only with individual prefectural authorization. The period from August 15, 2024 to March 31, 2025 allows hunting without prefectural authorization, and from April 1 to May 31, 2025, it is again subject to authorization.

For the first time, wild boar hunting will therefore be open over a continuous period of 12 months. Other dates to remember include hound hunting from September 15, 2024 to March 31, 2025, and underground hunting for foxes, coypu and badgers until January 15, 2025.

Protective measures and restrictions

Bans are also put in place to protect certain species and encourage the repopulation of game., such as shooting poops and hunting partridges, pheasants, marmots and grouse. Shooting is suspended on Tuesdays and Fridays, except public holidays.

Hunting in snowy weather is prohibited, with the exception of wood pigeons in the hunting country of the central Pyrenees. The harvesting of wild boar is also prohibited all year round, unless there is a specific exemption.

The hunting plan sets quotas for deer, roe deer, chamois and fallow deer, with minimums and maximums to be respected. Also, by way of derogation, certain species of game can only be hunted during given periods and under specific hunting conditions. Among them, the pheasant from September 8, 2024 to January 19, 2025, the hare from September 8, 2024 to February 28, 2025, or the wild rabbit from September 8, 2024 to January 31, 2025.
