Peyrilhac, in Haute-Vienne, the town of 8 castles

What is striking when arriving in Peyrilhac coming from Nieul is this town nestled in a green setting placed there like a postcard. And overlooking the village, its superb town hall, a building from the beginning of the 20th century recently rehabilitated. Peyrilhac is also a story. Peyrilhac and the parish of Conore are mentioned as a commandery on Cassini’s maps and were part of the members of the hospital commandery of Limoges within the grand priory of Auvergne. This lordship of the order of Saint John of Jerusalem had a pond (the Conore pond) and a common oven. From this long history, many monuments remain in the commune including castles: The Château de Trachaussade (17th century), the Château de Queyroix (17th century), the Château de la Mothe (14th century) and the Château du Breuil ( 17th century). Note also the 13th century Saint-Léger Church, listed in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage and the Church of the Décollation-de-Saint-Jean-Baptiste listed in the General Inventory of Cultural Heritage. In the heart of the town, you won’t be able to miss the 18th century Hall. And if you like nature, know that the town offers its visitors some beautiful walks to take on the hiking trails present, such as the “grandes allées” hike, where you will discover a magnificent panorama of the Monts de Blond, the built and historical heritage of the village, the old farm school and small heritage (wash houses, wells etc.).
