A municipal police officer from Villeneuve d’Ascq (North) was injured following a refusal to comply on June 7. Admitted to intensive care, he suffered several fractures.

The municipal police crew overheard a transaction between a pedestrian and suspected drug traffickers, in a car, during a patrol on Friday June 7 at 6 p.m. The suspects’ vehicle then fled before being blocked by a construction site. One of the police officers took advantage of this forced immobilization to check the vehicle. The police officer was seriously injured, including multiple fractures, and was admitted to intensive care. After several operations, he was able to leave the service this Tuesday, June 11.

The perpetrators of the refusal to comply were arrested by another police brigade in Villeneuve d’Ascq. According to the deputy in charge of security at Villeneuve d’Ascq town hall, interviewed by France 3, there would be “several refusals to comply per week” in the municipality. Drug trafficking is often involved in this type of incident, but perpetrators of traffic offenses also regularly refuse to submit to police checks according to Maryvonne Girard.
