The Flemish Mobility Agency (Agentschap Wegen en Verkeer) will install eight new traffic signs on the E40 between Sterrebeek and the Woluwe-Saint-Étienne interchange over the next two nights. The signs will all be installed towards Brussels. The work will disrupt traffic on Monday and Tuesday.
Four new dynamic signs have already been installed towards Brussels, but are not yet in use. These are RVMS (Roadside Variable Message Sign) signs which provide information on the actual travel time in the event of traffic jams, roadworks or an accident. These are large LED signs generally installed above the emergency lane.
Four gantries with dynamic traffic lane signaling will also be installed towards Brussels. This signage, with an LED panel above each traffic lane, indicates the maximum speed authorized on each of the lanes individually. In the event of an accident or if a vehicle breaks down, traffic regulators can immediately intervene and close the traffic lane concerned by displaying a red cross on the sign.
The four porticos will be installed over two evenings and nights. On Monday, traffic near Sterrebeek will only be possible on one lane from 9 p.m. Shortly after midnight, the road will be completely closed and traffic will be diverted. From 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, the expressway will be accessible again.
On Tuesday evening, the road will once again be completely closed, this time from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. When the roadway is closed, traffic will be diverted via Chaussée de Louvain (N2) and Woluwelaan (R22).
